Last weekend, the 2nd Annual Fernie Mountain Film Festival brought together a program of films celebrating mountain cultures and the human spirit.
Votes were cast, ballots were tallied, and the best film winners are in.
Rory Hinds’ Fernie Soapbox takes first place as Best Local Film. Hinds’ short film honours the local heroes who help make Fernie’s annual Soapbox Derby a merrymaking time for the children brave enough to descend a hill at hair-raising speeds in homemade cars.
Oil + Water wins Best of Festival. This film follows Seth Warren and Tyler Bradt as they travel some 40,000 kms in a Japanese fire truck converted to run on biodiesel, making stops along the way to show off the possibilities of using the renewable fuel.
FMFF is a not-for-profit society that donates its earnings to the Ghostrider Adventure Camp. The camp offers opportunities to local children to enjoy outdoor pursuits in our local mountain environment. This year, the FMFF was able to raise $1500 for the camp.
FMFF would like to thank presenting sponsors Blackstone and Elk Valley Coal for helping bring the event to higher ground. FMFF would also like to thank the City of Fernie, Red Tree Lodge, Rockies Law Corp, BP, Fernie 901, Fernie Hotel, Evolution Fitness, BC Hydro, The Free Press, Claris Media, the Fernie Shirt Company and College of the Rockies for their assistance in making the event such a success.
