Local Films Still Being Accepted!

The fourth annual Fernie Mountain Film Festival will be held 7 pm February 25, 26 and 27, 2010 at the Fernie Community Centre, Fernie, British Columbia. And new this year is pre screening events at the Arts Station throughout February.

NEW THIS YEAR. A special night dedicated to local filmmakers. On Thursday February 25th local films will be featured and cash prizes will be given out for the best local films. So if you're a local, get your films put together and get them submitted! You could win some cash!

Local Films: February 21st, 2010

FMFF may screen your film if it has been screened elsewhere. Films may be submitted that were completed within the last three years.

Rights clearance for music in your film is your responsibility. FMFF will not be held responsible for any inclusion of uncleared materials.

Films should be submitted on a single DVD and be compatible for with standard North American DVD players. We do not have high definition projectors. It is preferred that you send the DVD in NTSC format.

Please send submission form with the DVD or fax to the number at the bottom of the page.

You may submit as many films as you like.

If your film is selected, you will be contacted in early February. Please make sure the email address you send us is correct.

If your film is awarded ‘Best of Festival’ or ‘Best local film’ you can expect your cash prize within 6 weeks of screening.

Red Tree Lodge Art Contest

The Red Tree Lodge is proud to announce the Second Annual Art Contest in February 2010. We would like to invite you to join us by submitting your art work and attending our Gala night to showcase the art on Saturday, February 20th, 2010.

Our theme will remain connected with the Fernie Mountain Film Festival, showcasing local talent focused on bring awareness to Mountain Cultures, Fragile Environments, and the Passion and Perseverance of Global Explorers. The winner of the contest will be announced at the Fernie Mountain Film Festival on Saturday, February 27th, 2010.

If you are interested in participating this highly anticipated evening, submit up to 5 pieces of art that follow the following criteria:
Art must fall into one of three categories: Mountain Cultures, Fragile Environments, Passion and Perseverance of Global Explorers
Paintings or Photos must have black frames (if framed)
Different mediums of art that fall inside of the categories are welcome
Easels and Stands are Welcome
We appreciate large pieces of art
Minimum painting/photo size: 8.5’’ x 11’’
If you are interested in selling your art, please include the sale price with your submissions

Please contact Jenny Limoges at the Red Tree Lodge if you require more information or would like to participate in the Art Contest. All pieces must be submitted by 5:00pm February 5th.

All artists are urged to attend the Gala Night on Saturday February 20th from 6:30pm – 10pm and are welcome to invite family and friends to vote for their favorite pieces.

FMFF with Fernie Real Estate Company, Rockies Law & Teck present the 4th Annual Fernie Mountain Film Festival

It’s time to gear up for the biggest Fernie Mountain Film Festival yet—celebrating is fourth anniversary with the addition of 4 more movie nights!

New this year are weekly screenings on the Wednesdays nights leading up to the Festival. On February 3, 10 and 17 at the Arts Station, you are invited to enjoy a selection of feature films, including Let it Ride: the Craig Kelly Story, Freedom Riders and Paddle to Seattle. These screenings are $5 each, or included with a festival pass.

FMFF is also pleased to announce the addition of a local’s night—on Thursday, February 25 at the Community Centre. Come see the work of Fernie’s local filmmakers who have been gathering momentum and cutting deep niches. Local’s night is $5, or included with a festival pass.

On Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27, sate your appetite for the moving, the thought-provoking and adrenaline-boosting. This year’s film selection promises to take you to new heights, where the only limit is your imagination. Individual tickets are $10, or $15 for both evenings.

And back by popular demand—and still completely free—is FMFF’s children’s matinee, complete with popcorn and family friendly films.

Pre-Screening Films Announced

New this year the Fernie Mountain Film Festival is hosting Pre-screenings of films at the Arts Station Wednesday February 3rd, 10th and 17th at 7PM.

Kicking off the pre-screenings on the 3rd is Paddle to Seattle, a documentary that follows to kayakers travelling the inside passage from Alaska to Seattle.

On the 10th is Freedom Riders, a story about a core group of riders who evolved from covertly building rough and unsustainable trails, to creating a precedent setting relationship with the Forest Service and creating some of the best Freeride trails in the country.

Then on the 17th is Let It Ride: the Craig Kelly Story.

New Screen for the Festival

The Fernie Mountain Film Festival in partnership with the City of Fernie and Columbia Basin Trust have purchased a screen for use by the community. The first use of the screen was at the Warren Miller Premiere, and it will soon be used during the Olympic Torch festivities in Fernie.

Now Accepting Film Submissions

Submission deadline: January 31, 2009

Features: Our two-night event highlights one feature each night. Our features are exceptional films that embody our mission statement. Length of features to be a minimum of 50 minutes to a maximum of 90 minutes.

Shorts: Each night we show a unique selection of short films and film clips. A wide range of topics are covered so that adventure sports, mountain cultures, and our environment are highlighted.
Length of shorts have no minimum and a maximum of 35 minutes. Films of a length of around 5-15 minutes are preferred. Films that are of value but are too long for the shorts and not chosen for the features may be asked to submit a trailer or clip to be shown during the short film segment.

Best Local Film : $400 Selection committee votes on best local film.
Best of Festival: $400 Audience votes on favourite film.
